An Accidental Drowning?

The defense had a completely different story. Casey’s lawyers claimed Caylee died accidentally and that her father George actually helped cover up the death. According to lead prosecutor Jose Baez, Caylee drowned in the family’s pool on June 16, 2008. Then George found his granddaughter’s lifeless body and told Casey she would spend the rest of her life in jail for child neglect. So he helped her cover up the incident. According to Baez, this is why Caylee’s disappearance wasn’t reported for about a month. But that wasn’t the most shocking claim that the defense lawyers made during opening statements.
