Tennis Ball Prototype

While figuring out exactly what kind of movement was going to use best, Abhishek used some very handy everyday items to build a prototype. First, he cut a tennis ball at a particular angle, used a wooden rod for “the neck”, blue foam for the base, and a drill bit to create the prototype. Abhishek decided “the neck” was crucial in order to convey various human emotions and expressions.

The main ones that he noted are “happy, sad, curious, and excited”. He also had to figure out how to get the neck to have a certain degree of movement. Abhishek said, “While creating 4 degrees of movement was achievable, figuring out a mechanism to create 6 degrees of movement was quite hard.”
