Lucky to Have Not Been Born Yet

Before Putin was born, his mother Maria survived the Siege of Leningrad by Finnish and German troops between the years of 1941 and 1944. During the time of the siege, the supplies to Leningrad were cut off, leaving the people of the city to fend for themselves. The siege is described as the longest and most destructive siege in history and possibly with the most casualties. With no supplies of food and temperatures reaching -22 °F, people resorted to cannibalism. Over one million civilians died during that time including Putin’s older brother. If Putin had been born he surely would have died as well.
