Alexander Litvinenko was a former officer of the Russian Security Service and KGB, who fled from prosecution in Russia and received political asylum in the United Kingdon. However, on November 6, 2006, he fell ill and hospitalized and died three weeks later. He was the first confirmed victim of lethal polonium-210-induced acute radiation syndrome. On his deathbed, he made accusations about the wrongdoings of the FSB and claimed that Vladimir Putin was behind his poisoning.
