Apparently, Putin also isn’t shy to voice his opinions about the Soviet Union. At one point, he infamously commented on the dissolving of the Soviet Union as “the greatest geographical catastrophe of the 20th Century”. He even adopted the old anthem of the USSR and updated the lyrics so that it couldn’t be called the same song. However, it’s not the communism that he was a fan of. On communism, in 1999, he states that it is “A blind alley, far away from the mainstream of civilization”.
