The 34th president suffered from chronic abdominal pain which was later diagnosed as Crohn’s disease during his presidency. Although surgery helped alleviate his pain, Eisenhower had bigger health problems to worry about.
By the time he began his second term he looked noticeably older and worn out. This was following a serious heart attack as well as a stroke that he suffered during his first term — both which required extensive hospitalization. Eisenhower continued to push himself and died of congestive heart failure eight years after his presidency.
