Tony Blair was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1997 to 2007. Blair wasn’t shy about placing significant emphasis on how fit and healthy he was. While in office he would regularly speak of his healthy lifestyle and would even share his weight with the public.
Then in 2004, he was rushed to the hospital after complaining of chest pains and an irregular heartbeat. Although Blair recovered, he downplayed the seriousness of his condition, in fear of ruining his healthy image. “It’s not particularly alarming, but it’s something that you should get fixed – it’s a routine procedure,” he said following his ER visit. “I’ve had it for the last couple of months, and it’s not impeded me doing my work and feeling fine, but it is as well to get it done.”
