WWII Vet Frank Sutton Plays Gunnery Sergeant

It was very easy for Frank Sutton to take on the role of Gunnery Sergeant Vince Carter on Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.. Before he turned to acting, the Nashville native had enlisted in World War II and was honorably discharged as a sergeant. On June 28, 1974, Sutton died from a heart attack at the age of 50. His last role was in the 1974 film Hurricane, which was released months after his death.
