When coming up with a name for the character on Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C., TV Writer Everett Greenbaum decided to use the first name of Writer Gomer Cool, who is best known for his work on You Asked For It. The “Pyle” last name was taken from Actor Denver Pyle, who is best known for his part as Jesse Duke in The Dukes of Hazzard.
