Parks and Recreation Was Almost a Spin-Off

The Office and Parks and Recreation creators Greg Daniels and Michael Schur originally planned for the latter NBC hit sitcom to be a spin-off of the former. The idea was that the copy machine from the Dunder Mifflin office would be shipped to Pawnee, Indiana to link the stories of The Office and Leslie Knope’s Pawnee Parks Department.

The show creators later decided to make Parks and Recreation a separate show in its own universe, and it certainly stood on its own with seven successful seasons. However, that’s probably where the similar mockumentary style of Parks and Recreation came from. The shows also share cast member Rashida Jones, who plays different characters in each series.
