After portraying Kelly Kapoor and serving as executive producer, writer, and director on some episodes of The Office, Mindy Kaling went on to create and star in her own Fox and Hulu sitcom, The Mindy Project. In November 2016, Kaling and Ed Weeks announced they would be teaming up to executive produce a new comedy series on ABC.

In addition to her successful television career, Kaling published the successful memoir Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns). Her second book Why Not Me? Was published in 2015. She has also announced she’ll be writing another book with her Office co-star and on-again-off-again flame B.J. Novak.
