Rainn Wilson’s memorable portrayal as the invariably eccentric and unpleasant co-worker Dwight Schrute was a fan favorite, so it’s difficult to imagine anyone else in the role. However, Wilson had some serious competition. The season nine deluxe DVD set for the hit show featured bonus reel of never before seen audition tapes with surprising stars auditioning for key roles.

Seth Rogan auditioned for the role of Dwight Schrute, though the affable style of comedy that’s made him famous wasn’t quite right for the role. Rogan’s acting debut was in Judd Apatow’s cult show Freaks and Geeks, whichwas canceled after just one season. Though he had bit roles in a number of films after cancellation, his breakout role was in the Judd Apatow film, Knocked Up in 2007—four years after The Office started airing.
