After a website named Vote for the Worst became popular for American Idol fans who wanted to troll the show and merely vote for people who don’t deserve to be there, American Idol cracked down. There were many voting controversies over the 15 seasons but none this bad.

Season 6 saw Vote for the Worst endorse Sanjaya Malakar, who was unworthy of even a top 12 spot but ended up getting seventh on the show thanks to the website. The site decided to shut down in 2013 after people lost interest in American Idol.
