Remember those “first auditions” that you would see on TV? Yeah, that was actually their second or third audition already. Producers vet the contestants first to see which ones will be the most entertaining and who has the best story to tell.

The pre-auditions are very important and allow the celebrity judges to only have to sit through a few hundred auditions that will be televised. So those really crappy singers you would see were actually hand-picked by producers because they’re so bad.
