Netflix Is Gearing Up For Some Epic 2021 Movie Releases
Not all Netflix movies are created equal; some are dreadful while others are good enough to land an award or two. But at least they all have two things in common: they tend to be entertaining and they're easily accessible.
So, get ready for some new entertainment in 2021, as the streaming giant adds soon-to-be classics to its catalog. From the Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence-led film Don't Look Up to Ana de Armas portraying Marilyn Monroe in Blonde, Netflix is gearing up for some epic movie releases this year.
Don't Look Up
With an ensemble cast led by Academy Award-winners Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, Don't Look Up is one political satire disaster comedy you're not going to want to miss when it's added to Netflix's movie catalog in 2021.
As two low-level astronauts, it's up to Kate Dibiasky and Dr. Randall Mindy to go on a media tour to warn the world about an impending comet about to strike the planet. Considering Ariana Grande, Jonah Hill, and Chris Evans also make up part of the cast, it's sure to be a wild ride.
Blonde
With all of the biopics released in the past few years, it was only a matter of time before the one and only Norma Jeane's story was told. For those who aren't familiar, Norma Jeane is the birth name of the "blonde bombshell" Marilyn Monroe.
The 2021 biographical drama Blonde chronicles the life of the woman who became one of the biggest symbols of the 1950s and 1960s. Production for this film "began" in 2010. Now, 11 years later, it is finally making its way to Netflix.
Red Notice
With an all-star cast consisting of The Rock, Gal Gadot, and Ryan Reynolds, it's hard to think of doing anything other than watching Red Notice when it comes to Netflix in 2021. And when The Rock is an INTERPOL agent who happens to have no choice but to team up with two rival criminals, an expert art thief and con-man, well, anything is possible.
This comedy action thriller is one that shouldn't be overlooked.
YES DAY
If you have kids, maybe watch YES DAY without them first because it's bound to give them loads of ideas! Feeling like they always have to tell their three kids "no," Allison and Carlos Torres decide to give their kids one day where they're in charge, making the rules.

The Dig
For those who enjoy historical drama pictures, then the 2021 film The Dig needs to be included in your must-see list right now. Diving into a reimagining of the 1939 excavation of the Sutton Hoo burial site on Edith Perry's property in Suffolk, England, the movie has been called "unmissable" by more than one critic.
Kevin Maher, a critic for The Times, wrote about The Dig, saying, "[it's] serious, intellectually committed, and emotionally piercing cinema. Unmissable.
The Kissing Booth 3
Since it was kept on the down-low, many fans of the series weren't aware that The Kissing Booth 3 was shot back-to-back with the second film. That means that it is ready to be released to Netflix in 2021!
Rochelle "Elle" Evans is back, and it's the summer before she's off to college. And with a huge decision resting on her shoulders, it's sure to be a summer Elle never forgets. Sadly, this is the last film in The Kissing Booth series.
A Week Away
Adding to their ever-growing list of family-friendly films, Netflix has come to add A Week Away to their catalog. After getting in trouble with the law, Will Hawkins has two choices, spend some time behind bars at a juvenile detention center, or head to a Christian summer camp for a week.
He chooses the latter. And in doing so, he learns more about himself than he ever thought possible. Throw in some musical numbers, and it's pretty much a Christian version of High School Musical.
Tick, Tick...BOOM!
Written by three-time Tony Award-winner Jonathan Larson, Tick, Tick...BOOM! dives into the life of Jon, an aspiring composer living in New York City in 1990. Directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the film showcases the life of a struggling artist who, going through a midlife crisis, thinks his time to shine is over.
The semi-biographical musical stars Andrew Garfield as Jonathan Larson and Vanessa Hudgens as Karessa Johnson, with Alexandra Shipp, Robin de Jesús, Joshua Henry, Bradley Whitford, Judith Light, and Noah Robbins.
The Starling
Melissa McCarthy fighting with a bird while dealing with her own issues? Uh, where do we sign up to watch this film! As it so happens, The Starling will be available on the Netflix streaming platform in 2021.
After experiencing hard times in their life, husband and wife Lilly and Jack deal in very different ways. As Jack leaves to deal in his own way, Lilly becomes absorbed in a faceoff with an annoying starling bird outside her home while forming an unlikely relationship with a psychologist-turned-veterinarian. Maybe he knows how to deal with unruly birds?
Escape From Spiderhead
Based on George Saunders' 2010 New York Times short story Escape from Spiderhead, the film includes every bit of the original's dystopian premise. In a far-off future, convicts are allowed to minimize their sentences by volunteering as medical test subjects (because that always ends up being a stellar idea).
In this case, two convicts take emotion-altering substances, flinging them into the past. The sci-fi film is said to have lead actors in Chris Hemsworth, Miles Teller, and Jurnee Smollett.
Thunder Force
With all of the superhero content out there, it was only a matter of time before Netflix picked up some comedic film. The fact that they were able to grab Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer is just the icing on the cake.
During a time where super-villains terrorize the world, Lydia develops a device to give regular humans supernatural abilities. Well, her plan goes sideways when she accidentally gives her estranged BFF superpowers. Now, they have no choice but to team up and become Thunder Force, the world's first superhero team.
The Power Of The Dog
Based on the 2001 Thomas Savage novel of the same name, The Power of the Dog might have people looking at their siblings in a different light. When gentle and loving George, played by Jesse Plemons, brings his new wife home, his brother, Phil, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, has a thing or two to say.
Well, if "saying" now means declaring outright war on his brother's new wife. Apparently, Phil is a bit sadistic and dominating, and the notion of "change" isn't really in his vocabulary.
Outside The Wire
In 2021, Anthony Mackie stars as Captain Leo, an android military officer, in the sci-fi film Outside the Wire. Dropped into the middle of a war zone sometime in the distant future, Captain Leo finds himself teaming up with another android in the hopes of stopping a nuclear attack.
For a film that most definitely relies on more than one intense action sequence, it poses some big questions, such as the future of modern warfare.
Bad Trip
A simple road trip from Florida to New York turns into a Bad Trip for long-time friends Chris and Bud. When one of them plans to declare his love to a high school crush, Chris and Bud hop into the car and drive up the eastern seaboard. Of course, the car isn't actually theirs.
And Chris' sister isn't all too thrilled when she learns that he took her car without telling her. With an angry sister on their tail and love to be declared, this is one of those comedies you're not going to want to miss.
Army Of The Dead
What better time do organize a Las Vegas casino heist than in the middle of a lethal zombie breakout? Well, that's exactly what the 2021 Netflix film army of the Dead proves to be true!
Starring David Bautista as Scott Ward, the film follows a group of mercenaries as they plot the impossible during an impossible situation. But, hey, maybe they come out on top and don't turn into one of the army of the dead, who knows!
The Princess Switch 3
Apparently, twice wasn't enough for this princess. Vanessa Hudgens once again brings The Princess Switch to Netflix's catalog. While Hudgen's isn't taking the third installment a step further by playing a fourth character, this third switch is sure to be just as dramatic, romantic, and comedic.
While there is little known about the third film, aside from its December 2021 release, it's speculated that the movie will revolve around Kevin and his daughter's new lives as royalty.
Afterlife Of The Party
During her birthday week, a social butterfly, played by Victoria Justice, makes the biggest party foul of all -- she dies. But something miraculous happens. Given a second chance to right her wrongs on Earth, she is reconnected with her friends and family with one goal in mind.
She has to prove that she deserves a place in the ultimate VIP room, heaven. While the logistics of Afterlife of the Party have stayed pretty hush-hush, including the lead character's name, the plot is definitely piquing interests.
The Woman In The Window
Disturbia meets that recluse character from Benchwarmers in the 2021 Netflix release The Woman in the Window. Starring Amy Adams as agoraphobic Dr. Anna Fox, the movie is a thriller from start to finish.
After befriending her neighbors, Dr. Fox witnesses something she most likely shouldn't have, considering she's pretty much a peeping tom. But when her neighbor winds up disappearing, the doctor suspects foul play was involved. Based on the A.J. Finn novel of the same name, this psychological thriller might leave you lying awake at night.
Malcolm & Marie
In a very different take on the modern romantic drama, Malcolm & Marie not only brings the audience its a black and white picture, but a complex one at that. The film follows the story of the title couple, both of whom just returned home from a movie premiere.
While awaiting the critics' response to the movie, Malcolm and Marie dive into their relationship, finding out that it's not nearly as perfect as the world pictures it. Honestly, it stars Zendaya and John David Washington, so it's worth the time!
Back To The Outback
Back To The Outback is about to prove that not all snakes, spiders, and reptiles are mean, poisonous, and out to get us. Instead, that film is going to show how these creatures have hearts of gold! Tired of being gawked at, Maddie, a poisonous yet lovable snake, leads the Australia Zoo reptiles on a daring mission -- escape!
Wanting to leave the zoo for life in the outback, Maddie and her friends make a mad dash for the exit. But everything is changed when their nemesis, Pretty Boy koala, joins the escape party.
Concrete Cowboy
First premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival in September of 2020, Concrete Cowboy is finally making its way to Netflix in 2021. A western drama, Concrete Cowboy, tells the story of a young boy who moves from Detroit to Philadelphia to live with his estranged father.
There, he learns about the urban cowboys. Starring Idris Elba and Caleb McLaughlin as the father-son duo, this film is sure to have some grade-A acting involved.
Finding 'Ohana
Get ready, families, because Netflix is throwing their version of a Disney Channel Original Movie into their catalog. In 2021, it's time to travel to rural Oahu with Loane and Pili, two Brooklyn-raised siblings.
But their summer takes a sudden turn when a journal points the two siblings in the direction of some long-lost treasure. Along with some new island friends, Loane and Pili go on an epic adventure where they hopefully find treasure and definitely learn about their heritage.
To All The Boys: Always and Forever

Directed by Amy Poehler, Moxie is one coming-of-age drama that Netflix subscribers aren't going to want to miss. At a high school filled with a toxic status quo, a very shy 16-year-old harnesses her mom's rebellious nature and decides to out people in an underground magazine.
Let's just say that the publication sparks a school-wide outrage and revolution of sorts. But you're just going to have to watch the movie to see what happens!
The Harder They Fall
The year 2021 seems to be the year of Netflix releasing western dramas because it has another one coming to its catalog in The Harder We Fall. Nat Love was a cowboy after the Civil War, and this film follows a reimagining of his tale.
After his parents are murdered, Nat Love brings his old gang out of the woodwork, seeking revenge on the guilt party. Starring Jonathan Majors as Love and Idris Elba as Rufus Buck, this film is bound to find a place on the Netflix Top 10.
The Loud House Movie
Acquired from Nickelodeon, The Loud House Movie is making its way to Netflix in 2021. An animated motion picture, kids aren't going to want to miss out on getting to know the Loud family, especially on their roller coaster vacation to Scotland.
While the Loud family is already, well, loud, they crank it up a notch when they find out they actually come from a line of Scottish royalty. Now, who knows what this loud and crazy family will do with that knowledge!
No One Gets Out Alive
Based on the 2014 Adam Nevill horror book of the same name, No One Gets Out Alive will have viewers thinking twice about moving. Starring Cristina Rodlo as Stephanie Booth, the film follows her as she moves into an apartment that almost seems too good to be true.
Well, it is. While the price might be right, the creepy feeling of being watched and the strange noises at night isn't what Stephanie signed up for. Will she get out alive? Only one way to find out!
There's Someone Inside Your House
Netflix is keeping subscribers on their toes in 2021 with the teen slasher adaptation of There's Someone Inside Your House. Transferring from her high school in Hawaii to one in rural Nebraska, senior Makani Young, played by Sydney Park, soon realizes the move might cost her life.
As a stalker runs around town killing off the soon-to-graduate senior class while wearing life-like masks of their victims, Makani and her friends race to find who the culprit is before they become targets.
Things Heard And Seen
Based on the Elizabeth Brundage novel All Things Cease to Appear, the Amanda Seyfried-led thriller Things Hard and Seen is one no horror-genre lover should miss. After moving to the Hudson Valley, a newlywed Manhattan couple learns that their love has a darkness to it, but it's nothing compared to their new home's dark history.
Rumor has it that Netflix is hoping Things Hard and Seen will ride the success of Seyfried's recently released film Mank. Only time will tell!
Trollhunters: Rise Of The Titans
