Biggest Celebrity Twitter Feuds of 2016
You would think that celebrities are so busy with their careers or promoting themselves that they would not have time to participate in the petty nonsense that derives from social media. But every so often a celebrity takes to Twitter to voice their opinion on something or someone, much to the joy of the general public.
We love seeing celebrities creating drama and getting into Twitter feuds with each other. Perhaps it’s because it shows that celebrities can create the same drama that we normal people can, except on a much larger scale. Here are some of 2016’s best celebrity twitter feuds.
B.o.B vs Neil deGrasse Tyson
If you don’t remember, B.o.B is the rapper whose most popular songs are “Nothin’ on You” and “Airplanes” back in the day. Now you may be wondering, how could he have possibly gotten himself into an argument with famed astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson? Well, it all started with one simple tweet from way back in January of 2016.
He posted a picture of himself at what is presumably a high elevation, with cities in the background, questioning why he couldn’t see the earth curve. He then went on to post pictures that further supported his “revelation” and belief that the earth was flat. Finally, he tweeted, “Once you go flat, you never go back.”
Served By Facts
B.o.B’s revelations caught a lot of attention, especially that of Cosmos astrophysicist, Neil deGrasse Tyson. He tried to convince B.o.B to get his facts straight and accept science, even dissing B.o.B’s fading career, as seen in the picture below. B.o.B responded with a diss track on SoundCloud, to which Tyson did the same, with the help of his rapper nephew.
Finally, Tyson appeared on “The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore,” saying “Listen B.o.B — once and for all. The earth looks flat because 1) You’re not far enough away at your size 2) Your size isn’t large enough relative to Earth to notice any curvature at all.” He continued on with a rant that served to put B.o.B in his place and, of course, ended with a mic drop. You don’t question science.
Kanye West vs Wiz Khalifa
Within a month or so of that, infamous Twitter-ranter Kanye West found himself in a feud with fellow rapper Wiz Khalifa. After West announced that the title of his new album was changed to “Waves,” it wasn’t long before someone famous had to say something about it.
Wiz Khalifa apparently called out West for his use of the term, saying that he stole the idea from fellow rapper Max B, who popularized the term “wavy.” Wiz posted the above tweet (“Hit this kk and become yourself”), which ignited a slew of angry tweets in typical Kanye-rant fashion, which you will see on the next page.
Let Kanye Be Kanye
Kanye West responded to Wiz Khalifa – bashing Wiz’s son in the process – with a series of tweets as you can see below. West obviously took offense and apparently misunderstood what Wiz Khalifa meant by “hit this kk,” thinking it was a jab at West’s wife, Kim Kardashian. Apparently, Wiz was referring to his own special strain of marijuana called “kk,” but let’s be real – anyone who didn’t know Wiz had his own line of weed would have thought he was talking about Kim.
After West cooled down, he apologized and requested nothing but love and positive vibes, even tweeting “What’s sad is I love Wiz and I love all my brothers and all people.”
Every Rose Has Its Thorn
Meanwhile, in the midst of it all, the popularly-outspoken Amber Rose just had to chime in. Amber Rose is the now-ex-wife of Wiz Khalifa, with whom she shares a son. But before her relationship to Wiz, she was in a relationship with Kanye West. She posted the following tweet in response to West’s madness.
It makes sense that she would make a jab at her ex, especially if he’s attacking the father of her child. At this point West had obviously cooled down, but not before responding to what Amber had to say. He tweeted, “Exes can be mad but just know I never let them play with my [expletive]… I don’t do that… I stay away from that area all together.”
Kim Kardashian vs. Almost Everyone?
A few months later, Kim Kardashian got slammed by the public, basically for being Kim Kardashian. Akin to exposing her body on social media, it should have come as no surprise when in March, she posted a completely nude (but censored) selfie on her Instagram account.
Young actress Chloë Grace Moretz was the first to sound off on the internet-breaking selfie, with the above tweets. Kardashian was quick to respond to Moretz, tweeting back, “let’s all welcome @ChloeGMoretz to twitter, since no one knows who she is. your nylon cover is cute boo,” in reference to Moretz’s then-recent Nylon cover shoot in which she posed nude.
Bette Midler
Kim, who obviously is too busy to fight back haters one by one, tweeted an overall response: “Sorry I’m late to the party guys I was busy cashing my 80 million video game check & transferring 53 million into our joint account.” American singer/actress Bette Midler was the next celebrity to sound off on Kim’s selfie, with her tweet shown below.
Obviously unfazed by all the backlash she received, Kim did not hesitate to hand-pick some of the people she had a response for. To Midler, she tweeted, “hey @BetteMidler I know it’s past your bedtime but if you’re still up and reading this send nudes #justkidding” and “hey @BetteMidler I really didn’t want to bring up how you sent me a gift awhile back trying to be a fake friend and then come at me #dejavu.”
Piers Morgan
The British journalist and television personality also had something to say about Kardashian’s Instagram pic. Kardashian had a quick response for Morgan as well, as seen below. Morgan was so taken aback by the photo that he even took to writing an article for Mail Online, titled “You’ve still got a great body Kim, but if you’re really so successful, so secure and so rich why do you still feel the need to pose nude at 35?”
Kim defended herself against everyone, posting another nude photo – one that’s obviously professionally shot – with the caption “#liberated.” She even wrote a personal blog post saying that she feels empowered because of her body, her sexuality and that she is so much more than that infamous video she made over a decade ago. She shut it down by ending her essay with “I am a mother. I am a wife, a sister, a daughter, and entrepreneur and I am allowed to be sexy.”
Azealia Banks vs Zayn Malik
Rapper Azealia Banks is known to be quite the drama stirrer herself, having previously had Twitter feuds with other celebs such as Iggy Azalea, Lady Gaga, and Pharrell. In May of this year, she started trouble once again after ex-One Directioner Zayn Malik released the video for his solo album single “Like I Would.”
She was apparently calling Zayn out for stealing her ideas, tweeting “Damn Zayn be mood boarding the [expletive] out of me. I’m not mad about this though. Zayn is a cutie pie.” She ended on a light note, so at that point, Zayn should not have replied. But he did, as seen on the next page, and this sent Banks on a Twitter tirade in which she unleashed a slew of racial insults.
A Huge Overreaction
Zayn responded to her initial tweet, saying “@AZEALIABANKS why you been saying nasty things about me? I wasn’t talking about you lol.” Clearly, Banks is not one to mess with on Twitter, since she responded, “U.S.A IS ABOUT TO TEACH YOU WHO NOT TO [expletive] WITH!! When your entire extended family has been obliterated by good ol the U.S of A will you still be trying to act like a white boy pretending to be black? Do you understand that you are a sand [expletive] who emulates white boys’ renditions of black male hood? Do you know how lost and culture less you are?”
Zayn obviously took this as his cue to bow out of the conversation, as you can see above, but Banks continues on, going on with her racial slurs and inappropriate language.
Dragged By A Disney Star
As Banks went on attacking Zayn, 14-year-old Disney Channel star Skai Jackson reacted by tweeting, “Azealia Banks needs to simmer down a little.” This caused 24-year-old Banks to direct her frustrations at the young teen instead, replying “and you need to grow some hips and start ur menses. stay in a child’s place.” This started an argument between the teen and the rapper, but Jackson was not one to back down to Banks’s rude remarks.
At one point, Banks even said, “Never heard of your before. Never even seen you on TV… You aren’t a star. You aren’t a topic. You’re a Meme,” in reference to how the internet has been making pictures of Jackson into popular memes. Skai, the ever feisty 14-year-old that she is, replied that even her memes were more relevant that Banks herself. The internet raved over this back-and-forth, impressed at Skai for her ability to “clapback.” Skai was the obvious winner here when she finally said, “@AZEALIABANKS take your L like a champ!” Twitter subsequently suspended Banks’s account.
Calvin Harris vs Taylor Swift
In the following months, news broke that DJ Calvin Harris and singer Taylor Swift had ended their year-long relationship. The split was supposedly amicable and Harris even took to Twitter to say, “The only truth here is that relationship came to and end & what remains is a huge amount of love and respect.” But, shortly after that, Taylor was quick to move on to another man, as she typically does. Harris reacted as any ex would fresh out of a relationship, deleting his nice breakup tweet and blocking Swift on social media.
Despite news of an amicable split, rumors arose that the two split up over songwriting credits and Taylor’s legal team threatened to sue, saying that Swift had written the lyrics for Harris’s hit “This Is What You Came For” under a pseudonym. Harris went on a brief rant because he felt attacked, but the above tweet pretty much sums up what he was trying to say.
Enter Katy Perry
In his tweet, Harris references Katy Perry, with whom Swift is known to be in an on-going feud. Katy Perry dropped her two-cents on the issue, tweeting the gif below. She also retweeted one of her own tweets from 2015 that read, “Time, the ultimate truth teller.”
Perry and Swift have been in a feud for a few years now. Many have speculated that it started when Perry began dating John Mayer, two years after his brief relationship with Swift. Things really heated up around 2012, when Katy allegedly “stole” some of Taylor’s backup dancers for her tour. In 2014, Swift released the video for her song “Bad Blood,” which many believe is about Swift’s and Perry’s tarnished friendship. Considering all this drama, it’s no wonder Katy had something to say when Taylor found herself in a scuttle with Calvin Harris.
Taylor Swift vs Kanye West
When Kanye West’s album, The Life of Pablo, was released early this year, the track titled “Famous” received a lot of backlash. The song has lyrics essentially saying that Swift would still sleep with West because he “made her famous,” in reference to when West jumped up on stage and interrupted Swift’s acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV Music Video Awards. Taylor’s loyal fans and friends came to her defense, expressing their disgust at the lyrics.
West defended himself with another flurry of tweets, however, saying that not only did he get Swift’s approval for these lyrics, but they were actually her idea in the first place as seen above. Of course, Swift’s representatives denied the claim, saying “she was ‘never made aware’ of the controversial line, and that she ‘declined and cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message.'”
Kim Bites Back
Months later in this year’s July issue of GQ, West’s wife Kim Kardashian used her cover story to weigh in on the drama. She claimed that she had video evidence that West and Swift did, indeed, have a phone conversation about the song lyrics. “She totally knew that that was coming out,” Kardashian told GQ, “She wanted to all of a sudden act like she didn’t. I swear, my husband gets so much shit for things [when] he was really was doing proper protocol and even called to get it approved.”
Later that week, Kardashian took to Snapchat to unveil the video evidence. In the video, West is in the studio on a speakerphone call, on which you can hear Swift’s voice. The two are most definitely talking about the lyrics in question, as Swift can be heard saying “Um, yeah, I mean go with whatever line you think is better. It’s obviously very tongue-in-cheek either way… And I really appreciate you telling me about it, that’s really nice.”
The Internet Breaks Again
Leave it up to Kim Kardashian to be the one responsible. Since her snaps went public, the internet went wild over the fact that Swift lied about being aware of the lyrics or not, because clearly she was. Despite the evidence, Taylor still tried to play the victim by saying that although the call did happen, she wasn’t aware that Kanye would refer to her as “that [expletive],” even though she gave her approval for the even more suggestive song lyrics.
Swift responded by Instagramming a message, which many criticized she had planned to do, since the timestamp on the message revealed that it was written earlier (it has since been edited out). As the internet buzzed with #TaylorSwiftIsOverParty and #KimExposedTaylorParty, there were sure to be some other celebrities who weighed in on the topic.
Chloë vs Khloé
In the midst of all the drama, actress Chloë Grace Moretz once again voiced her opinion, rather unnecessarily, saying “Everyone in this industry needs to get their heads out of a hole and look around to realize what’s ACTUALLY happening in the REAL world … Stop wasting your voice on something so petulant and unimportant.” Kardashian’s sister Khloé responded by tweeting a pic of a girl that looks like Moretz, whose nether regions are exposed, saying “Is this the a hole you’re referring to @ChloeGMoretz???”
Many were appalled at Khloé Kardashian’s cyber-bully attack, but she defended herself the next morning with the above tweets. She really should have stayed out of it, but the Kardashians are known to have a strong familial bond, so it’s no wonder she would fight back.
Piers Morgan vs John Legend
After the passing of Muhammad Ali in June of 2016, Piers Morgan apparently had something to say about Ali being a racist. He began by writing, “Muhammad Ali said far more inflammatory/racist things about white people than Donald Trump ever has about Muslims. #fact … Why sugar-coat what Ali said or stood for? He never did that to himself, or when speaking of others.” He added, “I hope people don’t make me sound too perfect when I die. No coats of sugar please,” to which R&B crooner John Legend had a response:
Apparently, the singer would not take Morgan’s defamation of Ali laying down.
Enter Chrissy Teigen
Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Chrissy Teigen, who is also Legend’s wife, responded to her husband’s tweet in an interesting way, saying “@johnlegend from what? trolling isn’t a job (I’ve tried).” This is when things took an ugly turn since Morgan responded with the following tweet:
Teigen fought back, writing “@piersmorgan it keeps me nice and not-racist so sure, give it a go.” At this point, Legend stayed out of the picture, but Teigen and Morgan continued to spar. Piers Morgan tried to fight back with suggesting that Legend and Teigen read his article about Ali, to which Teigen replied, “sorry can’t read, just a modell doing modelling” copying the mispelling Piers had in his tweet.
Chrissy Teigen vs Piers Morgan
This clearly turned into a feud between Teigen and Morgan, with a frustrated Teigen spewing a series of tweets about her distaste for Morgan, as seen below. He finally responded to her by calling her a “ludicrous swimwear accessory. “
You would think things end there, but the following month, Morgan and Teigen went at it again. It all started with Jennifer Aniston’s blog contribution to The Huffington Post, in which she criticizes tabloid media for their relentless scrutinization of her body. Piers Morgan responded to the article calling Aniston a hypocrite for allowing herself to be photoshopped on magazine covers and promoting a “false image of beauty,” even going so far as to say, “You may want to dismount from that high horse at this point Jennifer.”
Chrissy Gets Pissed
Teigen seemed to get fed up with Morgan once again, when she wrote, “@piersmorgan saw your piece on Jennifer Aniston. Why do you ALWAYS take the road of being the piece of [expletives]? …particularly with women and people of color. tell me it’s just for clicks?? Please tell me you aren’t TRULY this vile… I think you aren’t this bad & have simply sold your soul for clicks. Which is even sadder than actually believing your garbage.”
Piers promptly responded to her, but at this point, we know that Chrissy isn’t one to back down, as seen in the pic above.
Proving A Point
After Chrissy called Morgan “King Troll,” Piers fired back with “Says the world’s biggest, lamest ‘celebrity’ troll. Your husband’s a genius so I forgive your childish impudence.” Teigen replied, “my husband thinks you are one of the most misogynistic, condescending morons on the planet but thank you.”
Finally, the tiff ended with the above tweets, but Piers felt that he wanted to have the last word, threatening to write a piece about Chrissy herself. He subsequently tweeted, “Might have to do my next @DailyMail column on @chrissyteigen – just to REALLY annoy her.” Sounds like Piers Morgan is the one to stir drama here.
Nicki Minaj vs Farrah Abraham
Bodacious rapper Nicki Minaj had it out with MTV’s Farrah Abraham. Abraham’s name first gained traction after she was an original cast member on the 2009 show, 16 and Pregnant. She was later added to the spin-off series, Teen Mom. One night in January this year, Minaj was watching an episode of Teen Mom and took to Twitter to make a comment about Abraham’s behavior towards her mother.
One of Minaj’s followers even commented that the Teen Mom star’s own daughter had to slap her for treating her grandma that way. Of course, Abraham had to fight back, as you will see in the next slide.
Things Get Explicit
As if Nicki Minaj wasn’t explicit enough at the beginning of the Twitter feud, Abraham responded to Minaj with the tweet below, but Nicki was quick with her comebacks.
Farrah responded by writing “@NICKIMINAJ you must really want attention – talk about women with respect – its Sunday stop watching reruns & go to church… To be clear my mom doesn’t help me I help her. I love & care for my mom. Stop disgusting talk.” Nicki had the final say, with a comment on Farrah’s grammar: “Instead of dragging your mother, learn the difference between ‘you’re’ and ‘your’, ding bat.” How catty.
Zendaya vs Julie Klausner
For those of your who don’t know, Zendaya is a Disney Channel star whose dancing and singing talents have landed her roles on multiple child sitcoms. Julie Klausner is by far less popular among the masses, unless you keep up with sketch comedy and comedic podcasts. Needless to say, Zendaya is more well-known among users of Twitter and Instagram, therefore she has an internet army to back her up.
That is why Klausner fell under fire in March of this year, when she body-shamed Zendaya for her slim physique after the young star made her appearances at the 2016 Kids Choice Awards. In the above tweets, Klausner criticizes Zendaya as a figure for young girls, noting how thin she looked and suggesting that she may even have an eating disorder.
No Stranger To Body Shaming
As a teen star and role model to other young women, Zendaya is no stranger to body-shaming and criticization of her looks. The previous year, E! and Fashion Police host Giuliana Rancic made comments about Zendaya’s decision to sport dreadlocks on the Oscars red carpet, saying that she must have smelled like “patchouli and weed.”
Zendaya publicly put Rancic in her place at that time by Instagramming a paragraph she wrote on how ignorant she felt the comment was. Now it was Klausner’s turn as Zendaya responded with the above tweets, threatening to peacefully teach Klausner a lesson as well.
Back Against The Wall
Julie Klausner clearly had no place in tweeting her comments about Zendaya. In the tweets below, she defends herself by saying that Zendaya’s body portrays an unattainable body image for many young girls. But in trying to make it seem like she was arguing for all body types, she used body-shaming in the process.
She then posted a series of defensive tweets, even going so far as to say “FYI Zendaya and her fans are angry [because] I insinuated this isn’t a healthy look. The end.” Why shouldn’t they be mad at that? She tried to clear up the air by saying “all women are beautiful,” but only made matters worse by accusing Zendaya of hating Jews.
Kanye West vs Kid Cudi
In September this year, Kanye West found himself in yet another feud, this time with his own protégé, fellow rapper Kid Cudi. They’ve remained good friends ever since Cudi left West’s label G.O.O.D. Music, but when West started collaborating with other big-name rappers such as Drake, Cudi had a few words to say.
The now-deleted tweets read, “These [expletive] don’t give a [expletive] about me… And they ain’t [expletive] with me. I’ve been loyal to those who haven’t been to me and that ends now. Now I’m your threat.” But as anyone knows, you should never cross West – especially if he was your mentor – because you don’t know what he’ll do next.
Another Kanye Rant
Following Kid Cudi’s tweets, West – who was in the middle of his The Life Of Pablo tour – interrupted one of his shows to express his disdain about Cudi’s remarks. Seemingly enraged in front of his crowd, he said, “Kid Cudi, don’t ever mention ‘Ye name, I birthed you. We all dealing with that emo [expletive] all the time… Don’t try to say who I can do songs with. You mad ’cause I’m doing songs with Drake? Ain’t nobody telling ‘Ye who to do songs with! Respect the God! … Don’t ever mention my name in a bad manner. None of y’all!”
Since the events went down, Kid Cudi took to Instagram to announce that he was checking himself into rehab for “depression and suicidal thoughts.” The hip-hop community lamented over the fact that he was going through mental health issues and much of the internet expressed their support. A few weeks later, it seems that West must have gotten over what Cudi had tweeted, after he interrupted another one of his shows to express his support as well, saying “I just wanted to take time out to say Kid Cudi is my brother, the most influential artist of the past 10 years. I hope he’s doing well.” In a subsequent show, West even had Cudi guest appear on stage at one of his shows after he got out of rehab.
