Oprah’s Most Giving Giveaway

In 2006, Oprah hosted a show on what giving back means. At the end of the show, she gave each member of the audience, over 300 people, $1000, a camera, and a challenge to “pay it forward.” She wanted the audience members to use the $1000 in different ways to help others and to videotape the results. Oprah is quoted as saying this was her all-time favorite giveaway she ever did while on her show.

One amazing result included audience member Minnie Scheidt who ended up raising even more money in her town for a man named John Newcomb and his family. John was suffering from a brain tumor and was also the sole provider for his family. They ended up raising over $70,000 to help the Newcomb family. Truly the most giving giveaway ever!
